Overview:
Ana is like any other young person trying to find their calling, and for her it is art. As Ana tries to establish her place in the art world, she does everything she can to impress her boss, Claire. But when Ana gets moved to first class for a work trip, she meets someone unexpected, Will. Will is every girl’s dream man: tall, has a charming smile, rich and a seductive English accent.
From sipping champagne to talking to a handsome man, Ana lets Will assume that he is talking to the director of Erwin’s New York office and not an assistant. With this little lie, she is able to get closer to Will and spend hours with him. Though, Ana does not realize the mess she has created until the other shoe drops. But how was she supposed to tell the truth, if she knew Will would look at her differently?
Opinion:
Leo Brady, a critic on Rotten Tomatoes commented, “Upgraded finds a way to soar through the predictable clouds, with a delightful supporting cast, and lands perfectly on the romantic comedy runway.”
In all honesty, I did not enjoy this movie. It did not give me the full rush of excitement, like other movies have. To me, it was like every other movie out there; nothing new.
Though, I did enjoy the love interests. Mendes is an actress whose work I am familiar with, so I knew she would bring her all to the table. The chemistry was not where I would have liked it to be, but it was still good. Renaux’s flirtation with Mendes is what probably made me continue to watch the film. I loved when he gave his boyish smiles and showed his jealous side. If there was a sequel to this movie, would I watch it? Definitely, I am a sucker for romance movies.
Anjali Kachwalla, a junior at Colonia High School elaborated, “The movie was cute and funny with dramatic and sudden twists that left me wanting more. All the actors did a fantastic job selling the true love trope. However, I do wish they added a little more to the ending because I thought it was predictable and just placed. I hoped for a more dramatic and cute ending, but other than that, it was a great movie.”
